Ferry Bit Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 2, 2026
Spyglass Team (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Ferry Bit mobile application (the “App”), a community and travel companion for Nantucket and Hyannis ferry information and island services. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
By using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. Information we collect
Account information. If you create an account, we collect your email address, a password (stored securely by our authentication provider—we do not store your password in plain text), and a unique display handle you choose. Your handle may appear on content you post in the App.
Content you provide. Depending on how you use the App, we may store information you submit, such as:
- Marketplace listings, messages, and photos
- Fishing catch logs and photos
- Business directory submissions
- Community event submissions
- Beta feedback and survey responses
- Profile or listing photos
Location information. With your permission, the App may access your device’s location while you are using the App—for example, to show directions to restaurants or other map features. We do not collect location in the background unless a future feature clearly asks for that permission separately.
Device and usage information. We collect limited technical information to operate and improve the App, including:
- App version and operating system (for example, iOS version)
- Screen views and general interaction events (such as which home tiles you open)
- Crash reports and diagnostic data when the App encounters an error
- Push notification tokens if you enable notifications
- A Firebase user identifier linked to your account when you are signed in
Information from third-party services. The App displays public or licensed information from third parties (for example, ferry schedules, weather, airport flights, restaurant data, maps, and embedded web content). Those services may collect information under their own privacy policies when you interact with them inside or outside the App.
2. How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the App
- Create and manage your account and display handle
- Enable features you choose to use (marketplace, messaging, fishing log, directory, notifications, and similar services)
- Send push notifications you have opted into
- Moderate community content and respond to abuse reports
- Understand usage patterns and fix crashes during beta and production
- Respond to support requests and feedback you send us
- Comply with legal obligations
3. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information.
We may share information in these situations:
- Service providers. We use Google Firebase and related Google Cloud services for authentication, databases, file storage, analytics, crash reporting, and push messaging. Google processes data on our behalf under its terms and privacy policies.
- Other users. Content you post publicly in the App (such as marketplace listings, catches, or your display handle in messages) may be visible to other users.
- Legal and safety. We may disclose information if required by law or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect users, the public, or our rights.
- Business transfers. If Ferry Bit is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, user information may transfer as part of that transaction.
4. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the App. If you delete your account in Settings, we delete your account credentials and profile and remove or anonymize associated personal data where reasonably possible. Some content may remain in backup systems for a limited time, and some public posts or messages may remain visible to other users in a form that is no longer linked to your account, where our systems or applicable law require or permit retention.
5. Your choices and rights
- Account deletion. Signed-in users can delete their account from Settings → Delete Account. You will need to confirm with your password.
- Location. You can disable location access in your device settings.
- Notifications. You can turn off push notifications in your device settings or, where available, in the App.
- Access and correction. You can update your display handle in Settings. Contact us if you need help accessing or correcting other information.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights (such as access, deletion, or portability). Contact us to make a request. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
6. Security
We use commercially reasonable safeguards, including Firebase security rules and encrypted connections, to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Children’s privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
8. International users
Ferry Bit is operated from the United States. If you use the App from outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page and change the effective date above. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy.
